AI tools launch fast — and die fast. This page tracks every AI tool that actually shut down, with the date, what happened, and the best replacement that is still shipping. Every entry is verified against the vendor's own announcement or a reputable news report, and each one links to its source.
A rename is not a death. Google renamed Bard to Gemini in February 2024 — the product kept running, so it is not on this list. If a tool you rely on is here, export your work first and switch second: several tools on this list deleted user data within weeks of closing.

Closing soon — announced shutdowns
Mozilla Solo closes 30 November 2026. Mozilla's free AI website builder has already stopped taking signups, and every Solo website and its data will be deleted on 30 November 2026, with no way to recover them afterwards. Export from Account Settings > Download Website Data before the deadline — the ZIP includes an HTML export and a CSV of image links and form submissions, but not the image files themselves, so download those one by one. Paid Pro and Grow subscribers get a prorated refund calculated as of 1 October 2026. Best replacement: Bolt, which Solo's own FAQ names alongside Lovable. Source: Solo's shutdown FAQ.
Price hikes we're watching
These are not shutdowns, but they change what a tool costs — and the pattern matters: AI features that were once a paid add-on are being folded into the base price, so you now pay for AI whether you use it or not. We list a hike only when the vendor's own announcement confirms it.

How to protect yourself when a tool dies
- Export on day one. The window is often weeks, not months — Phind deleted user data 14 days after its service ended.
- Keep a copy outside the tool. If your work only exists inside a web app, it can vanish with the company.
- Prefer tools with a real export button before you commit your workflow to them.
- Watch this page. Shutdowns are usually announced 30–90 days ahead; the "Closing soon" section above is the early warning.

What happens to my data when an AI tool shuts down?
It depends on the company. Phind deleted user data 14 days after its service ended, Tome's unexported decks were lost, and Relay.app permanently deleted every account and workflow. Export your work the day a shutdown is announced — the export window is often measured in weeks, not months.
Is Bard dead?
No. Bard was renamed Gemini in February 2024 — the product kept running under a new name. A rename is not a shutdown, which is why this page lists only tools whose service actually ended.
What is the best Sora alternative?
