Google on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon, its latest frontier AI model, just two weeks after the launch of Gemini 4 Argon. The company described Carbon as its strongest frontier model yet, built for multi-step software engineering, defensive cybersecurity, and long-horizon agent workflows.
The headline claims are about cybersecurity. Google said Carbon delivers state-of-the-art performance across vulnerability discovery, exploitation, and software patching, scoring 88.2% on SEC-bench Pro for finding vulnerabilities, 54.8% on ExploitGym for end-to-end exploit construction, and 71.0% on CWE-bench for patching. It also said Carbon generates secure code at more than twice the success rate of Argon on its internal benchmarks. These are Google's own figures — independent verification will matter, especially since the cybersecurity benchmarks were evaluated without defensive guardrails.
On independent rankings, Google pointed to the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0, where Carbon ranks first overall with a score of 59, and to an 89-point Elo gain over Argon on WebDev Arena, reaching fourth place at 1,768. The company also said internal testing showed Carbon cuts unsupported claims by roughly half compared with Argon and reduces task overreach by 26% and under-service by 29% during multi-step workflows.
Access is deliberately limited at first. Because of its exploit-generation scores, Google is staging deployment through its Fairwind Program, giving vetted security teams, critical-infrastructure maintainers, and trusted enterprise partners early access for defensive red-teaming and automated vulnerability remediation before general availability on Vertex AI and Google AI Studio. Ordinary developers and consumers do not have access yet, and no general launch date has been announced.
On pricing, Google said Carbon will match Argon's introductory rates of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens discounted by 95%, before standard pricing rises to $4 and $20 respectively. The rapid two-week cadence after Argon — which Google attributed to its researchers and AI models "working hand in hand" — underlines how fast the frontier race is now moving, with OpenAI and Anthropic shipping competing models in the same window.
