Anthropic announced Personal Finance in Claude on 5 November 2026, a beta that lets eligible subscribers connect their bank and card accounts and ask Claude questions about their own money in plain language โ€” where the money went, what bills are coming up, how spending compares month to month. The connections run through Plaid, the same account-linking service many finance apps already use, so users sign in to their bank through Plaid and Claude never asks for or sees a bank password.

The key boundary is that access is read-only. Anthropic says Personal Finance "can't move, manage, or invest your money," and it is not designed to provide investment advice. Claude can read balances and transactions โ€” reports say up to 24 months of history and up to 16 linked accounts โ€” and turn them into spending analysis and dashboards, but it cannot make payments or move funds. Anthropic also says the feature carries no ads or sponsored recommendations, and it is not pairing it with its own credit cards, loans or savings accounts.

Availability is narrow for now. The beta is rolling out gradually in the United States only, to Claude Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers โ€” $20, $100 and $200 a month respectively on monthly billing. Free, Team and Enterprise plans are excluded, and even an eligible paying subscriber may not see the feature yet while the rollout proceeds in waves. It works on Claude's web app, desktop app and iOS and Android apps, but only US banks can be linked, and the section does not appear outside the US. Anthropic says conversations in the Personal Finance hub are not used to train its models.

The launch lands nearly six months after OpenAI previewed personal finance in ChatGPT on 15 May 2026, so Claude is playing catch-up in the race to make chatbots the place people check their money. The read-only design is the honest pitch: useful answers about your own spending, with the dangerous part โ€” moving money โ€” kept out of the model's hands entirely. Whether users trust a chatbot with bank access at all is the open question, and the gradual US-only rollout gives Anthropic time to find out before it goes wider.
