Agentic AI just got its biggest check of the month. Instinct, a San Francisco startup founded in 2025 by ex-Sierra employee Noah Shinn, announced Monday it has raised $1 billion in a Series C round led by Sequoia Capital, Benchmark Capital and Coatue — quadrupling its valuation to $10 billion, up from $2.5 billion just last month. The company says it now has more than 100,000 users despite still being invite-only, and it's building a personal agent that completes everyday tasks autonomously via text or phone calls.

The valuation jump — 4x in a matter of weeks — tells you everything about where venture money is flowing right now. Personal AI agents are the consensus bet: the bet that the chatbot interface was just the demo, and the real product is software that does the thing instead of describing how to do it. Whether Instinct can actually deliver autonomous reliability at consumer scale is the open question; every lab in the world is trying to solve the same last-mile problem of agents that don't misbehave.

Watch this one closely. A billion dollars of fuel, an invite-only waitlist, and a founder with a Sierra/Bret Taylor pedigree is exactly the combination that produces either the next breakout consumer AI product — or the most expensive lesson in agent-safety engineering the industry has seen. Either way, it will be instructive. If you're evaluating AI agents for your own business, our AI SDR tools roundup covers the ones already selling to real customers.
