OpenAI on October 1 launched two new shopping features for ChatGPT worldwide: a virtual try-on that shows clothing and accessories on your own photo, and a Favorites library for saving products you discover. It is OpenAI's second serious swing at commerce inside ChatGPT — the first, an instant-checkout feature, quietly underperformed — and this time the bet is on visualization rather than transactions.
The try-on appears as a new "Try On" button in ChatGPT's shopping results. Tap it, upload a selfie or a full-body photo, and ChatGPT renders the garment onto you. It also works in reverse: upload a screenshot of an item from any website and ask ChatGPT to try it on you. OpenAI says both features run on the new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which it describes as producing more natural lighting and richer textures, following editing instructions more reliably, and cutting image generation latency — qualities that matter a lot when the output has to look like you wearing a real jacket.
The companion Favorites feature lets you save products you find in ChatGPT to an in-app Library to revisit later, stored alongside your try-on images — so the item and the photo of you wearing it stay together. Beyond that, ChatGPT can now work as a stylist of sorts: describe a style you want to try and it will assemble the pieces that complete the look, or upload a celebrity outfit photo and it will find the purchasable equivalents.
Honest caveats from OpenAI itself: the try-on image is a visual preview, not a fit guarantee — OpenAI warns it cannot confirm fit or size, and may not represent the product or your appearance exactly. You still need to check merchant measurements and return policies. The feature rolls out globally on mobile and web, and arrives as Google and Pinterest are doubling down on the same fashion-discovery lane.
